WHO WE ARE
Over 40 years of experience in marine and underwater works. Professionalism, reliability and technical expertise at the service of public bodies and private operators.
The Italsub S.r.l. has operated for over forty years in the field of marine works and underwater works, standing as a benchmark in Liguria, in Northern Italy and across the entire national territory.
Founded in the ’90s as a sole proprietorship thanks to the experience and vision of the founding partner Massimo Garbarino, the company has grown over time, evolving into a solid and well-organized corporate structure.
Over the course of the years, the quality of the work carried out, the high technical level and the seriousness shown have made it possible to build long-lasting relationships with long-standing clients and to gradually expand the portfolio, even beyond regional borders.
Italsub operates for Public bodies and private companies, through direct awards and participation in tenders, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, the required technical standards and operational timelines.
Structure and organization
The average annual workforce consists of 8 to 12 professionals, including managers, technical diving operators (O.T.S.), a qualified welder, a mason and administrative staff.
The internal structure also coordinates specialized external workers, integrated into the sites according to the specific operational phases.
At the Leivi (GE) headquarters there is a fully equipped metalworking shop with:
- MIG, TIG, electronic, static and rotary welders
- lathes and milling machines
- presses
- professional equipment for mechanical and structural work
This organization allows the company to ensure high quality standards and produce fully independently custom metal structures, including structural frameworks and anchoring systems for piers.
Our story
Early 1980s
The roots: passion, pioneering spirit and inventive flair.
At 22, Massimo Garbarino begins his path in the diving sector, attending in Genoa a diver course led by Duilio Marcante, earning the professional qualification.
During the first course, he specializes up to obtaining the O.T.S license, turning passion into professional skill.
Thus a spirit is born that will become the heart of Italsub:
to dive where others can’t reach.
1980 – 1990
Zoagli Divers
In a time when diving centers were still not very common in Italy, Zoagli Divers was born, among the first structured operations in the area.
The center stands out for its versatility, since, having a dedicated docking pier, a beach next to the dive center and the availability of many boats, it managed to meet the high demand of the time.
Given the area of interest, it even counted clients such as well-known TV faces.
At the same time, Zoagli became the first real Italian pioneer in the use of Nitrox for recreational divers, being the first dive center in Europe to fill tanks with oxygen-enriched mix, in collaboration with two other Italian schools that handled the training side.
In those years this mix was still viewed with suspicion by the main associations, even international ones, and there were no facilities suitable for managing tank filling.
This is where the company’s inventive soul was born.
1990s
The experience in LISOM and the birth of Italsub
In the ’90s Massimo Garbarino joins LISOM, a historic name in Italian professional diving, working closely with the industry pioneers.
Over time he acquires a company stake, becoming a partner and further deepening technical and operational skills until 1996.
Following the company’s closure, in 1996 Italsub was born as a sole proprietorship, founded by Massimo Garbarino. In those years the foundations were laid: underwater works, port maintenance and mooring management mainly in Liguria.
Today
Over 40 years of experience, an eye on the future
Natural evolution leads to the transformation from sole proprietorship to corporate group.
New Italsub today is:
- 8–12 professionals including managers, diving operators, technicians and employees
- Equipped workshop and complete fleet of vehicles
- Operations on maritime works, plants, recoveries, public works
- Ongoing collaborations with public bodies and long-standing clients
